A Brief Introduction of Wood Industry & Import-Export
Trade in China
China is one of
the biggest consumption markets in woody products and manufacturing.
The average growth of forest industry is 26% in the previous
five years and the annual yield of wood-based panel gets to
29.80 million cubic meters which is increased 98.27% in 1999
with 15.03 million cubic meters. Since Chinese government
has carried out the Natural Forest Protection Program, the
timber outputs is reduced but imports has been increased.
In 2002 the nationwide timber output was 38.889 million cubic
meters, which is less13.479 million than 52.368 million cubic
meters in the year of 1999. The log imports got to 24.33 million
cubic meters more 14.194 million than the number of 10.136
in 1999. The sawnwood imports got to 5.4 million by increasing
2.64 million cubic meters more than the number 2.76 of 1999.
The imports-exports of forest products was up to $22.2 billion
by increasing 45.76%, in which exports was made $9.426 billion
by growing 47.7% (includes furniture, plywood, woody and bamboo
products, arts and crafts, fruits and nuts, rosin, and so
on). And imports got to $12.774 billion by increasing 44.3%
(such as wood pulp, waste paper, paper, log and sawnwood).
Table: Wood Production & Forest Products of Import &
Exports, China 1999-2002

This table indicates, that domestic wood production has been
reduced, that log and sawnwood imports has been increased
,that forest products imports and exports has been increased.
This picture indicates, in 2000 forest products export, furniture
is about 26%, wood-based panel & veneer is about 7%, bamboo
products is about 10%,other wood products is about 20%.
This picture indicates, in2000 forest products imports, log
and sawnwood is about 26%, wood pulpӢused paperӢpaper and
paper board is about 26%.
